The Omnipresence Of God

Lesson 5

Introduction

1. One of the most impressive and thought-provoking passages in the Bible is found in Psalms 139:7-10.

2. "The Omnipresence of God" will be the subject of our lesson.

The Omnipresence Of God

1. David set forth God is everywhere. (Psa. 139:7-10).

2. God declared His omnipresence. (Jere. 23:23,24).

3. God's omnipresence is revealed in 1 Kings 8:27. See 2 Chron. 2:6; Acts 7:48,49.

4. God's omnipresence is found in Isaiah and Jeremiah (Isa. 66:1; Jere. 1:3).

5. Paul stressed God is not limited to a location. (Acts 17:24-28).

The Nature Of God

1. God is Spirit. (Jno. 4:24).

2. God is not fleshly. (Matt. 16:17; Lk. 24:39).

3. He is invisible. (Col. 1:15).

4. No one has ever seen God. (Exod. 33:20; Jno. 1:18; 1 Tim.6:16.).

5. The language describing God as having eyes, ears, hands, arms etc. is not literal, but can only be understood in a figurative way. (Exod. 15:8; 33:23; 24:10; Deut. 33:27; Isa. 59:1,2; Psa. 11:4; 91:4).

The Meaning Of God's Omnipresence

1. It means God's presence is not limited to a single location or even a million locations.

2. It means God sees what the evil do. (Prov. 15:3; Heb. 4:13).

3. It means God sees what the righteous do. (Prov. 15:3; Heb. 4:13).

4. It means we cannot hide from God. (Gen. 3:7,8).

5. It means we cannot flee from God. (Jon. 1:3).

6. No mountain or temple, nor even the heaven of heavens can contain Him.

7. One of God's names 'El Ro'i means "the God who sees." (Gen. 16:13).

8. It means we can worship God anywhere. (Jno. 4:23, 24).

Our worship is not fleshly. We do not offer animal sacrifices, but spiritual sacrifices of prayers, songs. (Heb. 13:15).

True worship is an actively of the spirit.

It is the "spirit" that is born again. (Jno. 3:5,6).

The "spirit" is the thinking part of man. (1 Cor. 2:11).

Our worship must be according to God's word which is truth. (Jno.17:17).

Truth means "reality." The Old Testament worship was truth, but it was only a foreshadowing of the reality to come.

Conclusion

 1. Yes, our God is unfathomable in all of His attributes.

 2. He is everywhere at the same time.

 3. Once again we are filled with reverence as we look at the Almighty God who dwells in heaven and everywhere in this vast, unlimited, infinite universe.
